UTILITY PROTECTION DOG – LEVEL #3
|Obedience – Level #3:This exercise is done off lead. No prong, choke or electronic collars are allowed. Flat nylon or leather collar is permissible.Random obedience pattern – three (3) left turns, three (3) right turns, and two (2) about turns. Pattern is called out by the judge on the field. Slow, normal and fast pace to be interspersed throughout pattern. Two (2) decoys will be present on the field. One decoy will be walking around in a non-aggressive manner; the other decoy also while walking around during the course of the obedience routine will fire three (3) shots at random times during the obedience phase with a .38 cal. blank gun. The dog is not to leave the handlers heel position.
Handler out of sight stay – with dog on down stay for two (2) minutes with two (2) decoys walking around in a non-aggressive manner. Decoys will not be allowed to touch, talk or make extended eye contact with dog. Dog is not allowed to break from down stay.
Food refusal – with the dog on a down stay and the handler out of sight, a decoy will approach the dog no closer than three (3) feet and toss three (3) pieces of food to the dog. The dog must not pick up the food.
Down in motion – Two (2) decoys will be present on the field walking around in a non-aggressive manner. The handler will down his dog and leave him and walk fifty (50) yards away from the dog. The two (2) decoys will walk in between the handler and dog and continue to walk around the area. The handler will call the dog upon a signal from the judge, the dog will come to the handler but at the 25 yard mark, the handler will command the dog to down. The dog must go immediately into a down position and stay there for 30 seconds until commanded to return to the handler by the judge. The dog will finish to the heel position.
Protection – Level #3:

Lost article search – Level #3 (Simulates handler losing keys, cell phone and wallet)
This exercise is done off lead. No prong or electronic collars are allowed. Flat nylon or leather collar is permissible.
Handler throws a set of keys and a cell phone and either a leather or nylon wallet into an area 150 ft. X 150 ft. The article must be at least seventy five (75) feet away from each other. Setup time is twenty (20) minutes. Dog has twelve (12) minutes to find both articles. Dog is allowed to either indicate upon articles by laying down/sitting or pick up articles and bring to handler.
